Penfield, N.Y. – Ben Slicker notched a top-70 finish to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's golf team to a 35th-place showing at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships.
Playing through steady rain on Thursday, Slicker's +3 round on Day Two brought the Ducks to +55 overall. He climbed 60 spots on the leaderboard and sat 59th at the time his round concluded. No. 9 Huntingdon and No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan were battling for the top positions after two days of play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Starting on the fourth hole, Slicker opened his day with a par. After three straight bogeys, he responded with a par and a birdie as he made the turn. He added a birdie on the par-4 11th and then recorded five consecutive pars from holes 12 to 16. Battling adverse weather conditions, Slicker tallied his third birdie of the day on 17. He finished the back nine at even-par 36 after bogeying 18.
Brock Dickson shaved two strokes off his previous round, carding a +8 for the day and sitting at +18 overall. He began the day with three straight pars and added three more on the back nine, including a stretch of three from holes 14 to 16 following a double bogey on 14.
Arav Tank recorded four pars on the back nine, including a stretch from holes 10 to 14. His highlight came on the par-5 17th, where he tallied an eagle. The sophomore finished the back nine at +2, thanks in part to his strong finish.
Sebastian Beaver registered six pars over his first 11 holes, including three in a row from holes 10 to 12. He drained his first birdie of the round on hole one. Maxime Debets also birdied the first hole and added five pars throughout his round. All five Ducks notched a par on the second hole.
