PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team's 2024-25 season concluded Friday in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship with a 4-0 loss to No. 6 Wesleyan University.
 
For the second straight season, the Cardinals knocked the Ducks out of NCAA's (5-0 victory in Middletown, Conn. last May), and will play the winner of Carnegie Mellon and Ohio Northern in the third round on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Milagros Carbajal Diaz and Sude Aytekin were level at one game apiece in their doubles contest at No. 3 before the Cardinals' pairing took command of the match late. Alix Dry and Stephanie Untermeyer dropped their match at No. 1, seizing the team point for Wesleyan. Gigi Arenas and Lorena Piegas had their match abandoned once the No. 1 match finished.,
 
In the first-to-four-points finish, Wesleyan needed three singles victories to claim the victory, which it did with straight-set wins at No. 5, then No. 4, then No. 3.
 
In the abandoned singles matches, Sude Aytekin took the opening set at No. 2 Alix Dry dropped the opening set at No. 1, and Gigi Arenas dropped the opening set at No. 6.
 
Stevens finishes the year 12-8, running its win total over the last four years to 49, the most wins for the program in a four-year span since 2008-09 through 2011-12 (also 49).
