WILKES-BARRE – The top-seeded Wilkes University women's ice hockey team advanced to their second consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship Final Saturday afternoon, defeating the No. 4 seed Alvernia University 5-0 at the Toyota SportsPlex.
After weathering an early Alvernia attack in the first, Renee Ng opened the scoring at 7:46 off the helper by Drew Hayhurst. Hayhurst then lit the lamp at 10:15 to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
Haylee Bouchard added to the fun at the 4:40 mark in the second, firing home a point-blank shot after a quick assist by Nina Hudakova and Anneke Bouma. The assisting duo then went on to score goals four and five of the day, with Hudakova lighting the lamp at 5:15 and Bouma at 19:24. Two saves in the third period for Audrey Milne sealed the victory for the Colonels.
Four Colonels had two-point days, with Hudakova, Bouma, and Hayhurst all tallying one goal and one assist each, while Abby Bush provided two helpers. Between the pipes, Milne made 15 saves en route to her seventh shutout of the season.
Wilkes will now host the MAC Championship Final at the Toyota SportsPlex next Saturday against the No. 2 seed Arcadia University Knights in a rematch of last year's championship game. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
