Four MAC Basketball Teams Punch their Ticket into the NCAA Tournament

Hood, Stevens, DeSales and Messiah advance

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Conference News) – The NCAA released the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Basketball Championship fields. The Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MAC Commonwealth) and the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) combined for four bids.

Men's Basketball
The No. 2 seed Stevens defeated No. 4 seed Misericordia to claim its fourth MAC Freedom title in program history. Tommy Scholl was named the Tournament MVP, as he led the way with a team-high 19 points. The Ducks finished 10-4 in conference play and 18-9 overall. Stevens will travel to Christopher Newport to take on the host. 

On the Commonwealth side, No. 1 seed Hood defeated No. 3 seed York in a double overtime thriller to capture their second MAC Commonwealth title. Jevon Yarbrough scored a career high 44 points while dishing out eight assists and pulling down eight boards to earn the Tournament MVP. The Blazers finished 13-1 in conference play and 24-3 overall as they currently rank No. 17 in the nation. Hood will host Vassar in the first round, with the winner playing the winner of Redlands vs. Susquehanna on Saturday. 

Women's Basketball
DeSales is back on top in the MAC Freedom as they won their 13th MAC Freedom title over No. 3 seed Stevens. No. 1 seeded Bulldogs were led by senior Mikaili Donmoyer who was named Tournament MVP as she scored a game-high 16 points. Head coach Fred Richter tallied his 700th win, becoming the 13th coach to win 700 career games in NCAA Division III women’s basketball coaching history. The Bulldogs will travel to Ohio Wesleyan to take on the host on Friday. 

The Messiah Falcons claimed the MAC Commonwealth title for the 17th time in program history. The Falcons held off a late Widener comeback for a 76-72 victory. Charlotte Milanesi was named the Tournament MVP with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. The Falcons will travel to NYU to face Cortland in the first round.
