Messiah Claims Ninth-Straight MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Title

The Falcons have won 14 of the previous 15 MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Championships

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Field Hockey) –
The top-seeded Messiah Falcons shut out the second-seeded Stevenson Mustangs by a score of 6-0 on Saturday to win their ninth-straight MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Championship.
 
Messiah (15-5) took a 5-0 lead into the half with three goals by Carissa Gehman and two goals by Moriah Pfautz. Taylor Holt set up the first two Falcons’ goals.
 
The Falcons outshot Stevenson (12-9), 16-5, in the first half.
 
Pfautz added a goal six minutes into the second half to extend Messiah’s lead to, 6-0, and record the second Falcon hat trick of the game. Pfautz tallied two goals in the semifinal win over Albright to have five goals during the championship run. The junior  was named the MAC Commonwealth Championship Most Valuable Player.
 
The Falcons went on to outshoot the Mustangs by a 23-8 margin with 13 shots on goal. Stevenson’s goalies recorded a combined seven saves in the loss.
 
Messiah has a total of 22 conference titles since joining the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC). That Falcons won eight MAC titles before the conference split into two conference championships in 2000. Messiah now has 14 MAC Commonwealth titles in field hockey.
 
Messiah earns the MAC Commonwealth’s automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Championship. The field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 9 in a press release on www.NCAA.com.
