YORK, Pa. (Women’s Swimming) – The Messiah Falcons won their fourth-straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) women’s swimming title. The Falcons collected 619 points with nine gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
Widener finished second with 595.5 points and 11 total medals. Arcadia finished third with 522 points and 10 medals. Stevenson finished fourth with 349 points and nine medals, and Albright took fifth with 339 points and four medals.
Messiah’s junior Katie Wingert was named the 2017 David B. Eavenson Award as the MAC Women’s Swimmer of the Year after recording 60 individual points. Wingert was part of six gold medals, including three individual (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 IM) and three relay (400 medley, 200 freestyle, 800 freestyle) medals. She finished the championship as part of the silver medalist 400 freestyle relay team.
Arcadia’s freshman Megan Hupp was named the 2017 MAC Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Year after recording 57 individual points. Hupp won both the 500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle, while placing second in the 200 freestyle. The freshman was part of the bronze medal winning 400 medley, 200 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay teams.
Stevenson’s John Stuhltrager was named the 2017 MAC Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year.
1,650-YARD FREESTYLE
Arcadia’s Megan Hupp won gold in a time of 17:48.97 in her first conference championship. Widener’s Alyssa Myers took silver in a time of 17:58.70, and Messiah’s Emily Reale won bronze in a time of 18:05.56. Reale had previously won three-straight gold medals in the 1,650 freestyle.
200-YARD BACKSTROKE
Stevenson’s Melanie Milam won gold in a time of 2:07.39 for the Mustangs’ second gold medal in the championship. Albright’s Julia Wadding took silver in a time of 2:09.88, and Arcadia’s Samantha Carpenter took bronze in a time of 2:10.30.
100-YARD FREESTYLE
Messiah’ Katie Wingert repeats as champion with a new MAC Championship record time of 51.36 seconds, which is also an NCAA provisional time. Widener’s Christine Kunzler took silver in a time of 52.91 seconds, and Messiah’s Tara Freeman won bronze with a time of 52.96 seconds.
200-YARD BREASTSTROKE
Misericordia’s Grace Nikolski wins gold with a time of 2:24.22. King’s Kirsten Siwy took silver with a time of 2:26.46, and Stevenson’s Juli Burnett won bronze with a time of 2:29.74.
200-YARD BUTTERFLY
Albright’s Ashlyn Chermol won gold with a time of 2:08.82. Widener’s Liz O’Sullivan took silver in a time of 2:10.40, and Stevenson’s Izzy Ramsland took bronze in a time of 2:11.40.
400-YARD FREESTYLE RELAY
Widener wins gold with a time of 3:32.74. Messiah took silver with a time of 3:33.83, and Albright finished in third for bronze with a time of 3:37.61.
