Senior Scholar-Athlete History

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Academic News) –
The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) will be announcing its 27 MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes daily (Monday-Friday) from April 15-30.
 
A senior student-athlete from each of the 27 MAC sponsored sports are being recognized for their strong academic and athletic prowess.
 
Check back each day (April 15-30; Monday-Friday) at 11 a.m. (1 p.m. on Mondays) on this release as we highlight these prestigious award recipients. We will also spotlight the recipients on our social media accounts.


GALEN FITZKEE
Men’s Tennis – Messiah University
Galen Fitzkee (Manheim, Pa.) is a two-time All-MAC Commonwealth First Team honoree (2018, 2019) and was named the 2018 MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year. He led the Falcons to the 2018 MAC Commonwealth team title with a 5-0 win over Lebanon Valley. In 2018, he went 10-3 overall and was 8-0 in MAC Commonwealth play.
 
Fitzkee is majoring in human peace and conflict studies with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a 3.91 GPA and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Fitzkee was named to the Men’s Tennis Academic All-MAC Team in 2018 and 2019.
 
 
MEGAN CARTER
Women’s Tennis – Hood College
Megan Carter (Murrieta, Calif.) is a two-time All-MAC Commonwealth honoree with first-team honors in 2019 and second-team honors in 2018. Carter was named the 2019 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year. She has earned more than 25 career wins at No. 1 singles (26-10) and at No. 1 doubles play (25-11).
 
Carter is double majoring in English and law and criminal justice with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. She holds a 3.60 GPA and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Carter was named to the 2019 Women’s Tennis Academic All-MAC Team. She has been named to the Hood Dean’s List three times.


RYAN GEBHARDT
Men’s Lacrosse – Stevens Institute of Technology
Ryan Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) is a two-time all-conference first team (2018, 2019) and named rookie of the year (2018) while competing in the Empire 8 Conference. Gebhardt is a two-time all-American honorable mention by the USILA and Maverik Division III Media. He became the all-time career leader in goals scored for the longest consecutively running college lacrosse program in NCAA history.

Gebhardt is majoring in finance with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a 3.92 GPA. Gebhardt has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and the Stevens President’s List.
 
 
EMILY SHANKLIN
Women’s Lacrosse – Stevens Institute of Technology
Emily Shanklin (Berkley, Mich.) was named to the All-Empire 8 Conference Second Team and the IWLCA All-Boardwalk Region Second Team in 2019. She also earned all-conference honorable mention honors in 2018. Shanklin holds the single-game (16) and single-season (104) program records in draw controls.
 
Shanklin is majoring in chemical engineering with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. She holds a 3.85 GPA and is a member of the Engineering Honor Society. Shanklin has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and Stevens President’s List.


KYUNG CHUNG
Men’s Golf – Alvernia University
Kyung Chung (Managua, Nicaragua) won the 2019 MAC Commonwealth individual title and was named the MAC Commonwealth Golfer of the Year and All-MAC Commonwealth First Team. Chung finished tied for fourth at the 2021 MAC Commonwealth Championship to earn All-MAC Commonwealth First Team honors for a second time.
 
Chung is majoring in sport management with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a 3.27 GPA and has been named to both the MAC Academic Honor Roll and the Alvernia University Dean’s List.
 
 
YUPHA MUZYKA
Women’s Golf – Alvernia University
Yupha Muzyka (Sinking Spring, Pa.) was named All-MAC First Team in after finishing fifth at the 2019 MAC Championship. Muzyka holds the Alvernia single-round record of 71. She is a four-time low-medalist.

Muzyka is double majoring in business management and accounting with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. She currently holds a 3.94 GPA and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll twice. Muzyka was named to the Women’s Golf Academic All-MAC Team in 2019. She has been named to the Alvernia University Dean’s List five times.


MIKE CIRILLI
Baseball – Alvernia University
Mike Cirilli (Ramsey, N.J.) was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team in 2019 and All-MAC Commonwealth Honorable Mention in 2017 at second base. He led Alvernia to the 2019 MAC Commonwealth title and a berth to the NCAA Championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
 
Cirilli earned his undergraduate degree in business management and is working towards his MBA with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a 3.95 GPA. Cirilli has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll four times and the Alvernia University Dean’s List eight times.
 
 
SAMANTHA SCHATTIN
Softball – Stevens Institute of Technology
Samantha Schattin (Princeton Junction, N.J.) is a two-time all-conference team selection (2018, 2019) and conference player of the year (2019) while competing in the Empire 8 Conference. Schattin was named to the NFCA All-Region team in 2019.

Schattin is majoring in mechanical engineering with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. She holds a 3.95 GPA and was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll in 2020. Schattin was named the Stevens’ NWAIAW Woman of the Year in February 2021. She has been named to the Stevens President’s List and is a member of the Engineering Honor Society.


MATTHEW KRAUS
Men’s Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field – DeSales University
Matthew Kraus (Warminster, Pa.) is a 13-time All-MAC honoree between the indoor and outdoor track & field season. Kraus earned eight All-MAC honors during his indoor career including three first-team, one second-team and four third-team honors. In the outdoor season, Kraus is a five-time All-MAC honoree, including three first-team, a second-team and a third-team selection. He has six conference gold medals over three seasons. In 2020, Kraus advanced to the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships where he finished as an all-American.

Kraus is majoring in biology with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three-straight seasons for both indoor and outdoor track & field. Kraus is a three-time Men’s Indoor Track & Field Academic All-MAC honoree and was named to the 2020 Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Academic All-MAC Team. He is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Honoree, and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American with first-team honors in 2020 and third-team honors in 2019. Kraus was named the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship Elite 90 Award recipient.
 
 
OLIVIA VISAGGIO
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Misericordia University
Olivia Visaggio (Wantagh, N.Y.) won the 2020 MAC Indoor 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:05.26 to earn All-MAC First Team honors. Visaggio also finished runner-up in the 3,000-meter run to ear second-team accolades. Viaggio led the Cougars to back-to-back team titles in 2018 and 2019.

Visaggio is majoring in physical therapy with an expected undergraduate graduation date this spring. She will earn her doctorate in 2023. She currently holds a 3.97 GPA and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Visaggio was named to the 2020 Women’s Indoor Track & Field Academic All-MAC Team.
 
 
GINA DELLO RUSSO
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Stevens Institute of Technology
Gina Dello Russo (Morris Plains, N.J.) is a four-time NCAA All-American, 11-time All-Empire 8 Conference First-Team honoree and the 2018 Empire 8 Athlete of the Year in both Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. In 2018, Dello Russo finished second in the 400-meter dash at the NCAA Division III Championship with a school record time of 54.56 seconds. She is also a five-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree.

Dello Russo earned her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and is working on her doctorate. She currently holds a 3.94 GPA and was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and Academic All-MAC Team in 2020. Dello Russo is a CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team honoree, and a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District recipient. In 2020, she was named an NCAA Woman of the Year Top-30 Honoree. She has been named to the Stevens’ President’s and Dean’s List. Dello Russo is a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma Engineering Honor Societies.
 
 
BRETT KALINER
Wrestling – Stevens Institute of Technology
Brett Kaliner (West Chester, Pa.) is a two-time NCAA and NWCA All-American, never finishing lower than third-place at nationals. Kaliner is a three-time conference champion and a three-time NCAA regional champion. He was named the 2020 NCAA Southeast Regional Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Kaliner is majoring in business and technology with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2022. He currently holds a 3.91 GPA and was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and Wrestling Academic All-MAC Team in 2020. Kaliner is a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. He has been named to the Stevens’ President’s List.


KURT VON AUTENRIED
Men’s Swimming – Stevens Institute of Technology
Kurt von Autenried (Prince Junction, N.J.) is an 11-time All-MAC First Team honoree and a two-time All-Empire 8 Conference selection. Von Autenried was named the 2021 David B. Eavenson Award (MAC Swimmer of the Year). He won the 2020 and 2021 MAC Men’s 50-yard Freestyle and the 2021 100-yard Butterfly. He was also part of the MAC gold-medal-winning 400-yard medley relay (2020,2021), 200-yard freestyle relay (2020,2021), 400-yard freestyle relay (2020, 2021) and 800-yard freestyle relay (2020, 2021) teams. He earned All-MAC Second Team honors in the 200-yard butterfly and All-MAC Third Team honors in the 100-yard butterfly. He also led the Ducks to the MAC team title in both 2020 and 2021.
 
Von Autenried is majoring in computer science with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He holds a 3.90 GPA and was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and Men’s Swimming Academic All-MAC Team in 2020. Von Autenried was named to the Stevens President’s List.
 
 
ELIZABETH SAVIDGE
Women’s Swimming – King’s College
Elizabeth Savidge (South Windsor, Conn.) won the 2020 MAC Women’s 100-yard backstroke title with a time of 58.47 seconds. Savidge took second place for All-MAC Second Team honors in the 200-yard backstroke in 2020.

Savidge is studying in the physician’s assistant program with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. She holds a 3.97 GPA and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Savidge was named to the Women’s Swimming Academic All-MAC in 2020.


CAMERON ANKLEWICH
Men’s Ice Hockey – King’s College
Cameron Anklewich (Calgary, Alberta) scored the first goal in program history and currently holds the program record for most games played with 73 (of 75 team games). Anklewich has recorded 12 points on four and eight assists. He earned UCHC Rookie of the Week honors.

Anklewich is double majoring in finance and accounting with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He holds a 4.00 grade-point average (GPA) and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Anklewich has also been named to the UCHC All-Academic Team three times. He is a two-time Krampade AHCA All-American Scholar recipient.
 
 
TRINITY BARCLESS
Women’s Ice Hockey – Stevenson University
Trinity Barcless (Trenton, N.J.) is a two-time MAC Offensive Player of Year and a two-time All-MAC First Team Selection (2020, 2021). Barcless was named the MAC Rookie of the Year and All-MAC Honorable Mention in 2018. She has led the Mustangs to three MAC titles in the past four seasons.

Barcless is majoring in interdisciplinary studies with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. She holds a 3.80 GPA and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and the UCHC All-Academic Team twice. Barcless was named to the 2020 Women’s Ice Hockey Academic All-MAC Team.


SPENCER COOK
Men’s Basketball – Stevens Institute of Technology
Spencer Cook (Washington Township, N.J.) became the first NABC All-American (third team) in program history after the 2019-20 season. In the same season, Cook was named the MAC Freedom Player of the Year, All-MAC Freedom First Team and the MAC Freedom Championship Most Valuable Player (MVP) after leading the Ducks to the conference title. Prior to joining the MAC, Cook was named to the All-Empire 8 Conference First Team as a sophomore. In his first season, he was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year. He was crowned the NCAA Division III 3-point Shooting Statistical Champion in 2019-20.
 
Cook earned his degree in finance and is pursuing his MBA in finance and data analytics with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He holds a 3.84 GPA and was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and Men’s Basketball Academic All-MAC Team in 2020. Cook was named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, and he was also named a Josten’s Trophy Finalist. He has been named to the NABC Honors Court the previous two seasons.
 
 
ERICA LUTZ
Women’s Basketball – Lycoming College
Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa.) is a three-time all-conference selection. Lutz was named to the 2021 All-MAC Freedom First Team, and to the All-MAC Commonwealth Second Team twice in 2019 and 2020 before Lycoming moved conferences. She led the Warriors to the MAC Commonwealth title game in 2019. In 2021, Lutz ranked second in Division III in defensive rebounds and 18th in total rebounds.

Lutz is majoring in biology with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. She holds a 3.73 GPA and have been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times and the Lycoming College Dean’s List seven times. Lutz is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletics Honor Society.


LOGAN SMILEY
Men’s Volleyball – Stevenson University
Logan Smiley (Lancaster, Pa.) is a two-time All-MAC First Team selection (2018, 2021) and a two-time AVCA Division III All-East Region selection. Smiley was named to the AVCA Division III All-America Second Team in 2020. He had led the Mustangs to three-straight MAC title games with a conference title crowning in 2018.

Smiley is majoring in business administration with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a 3.75 GPA, and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Smiley was named to the Men’s Volleyball Academic All-MAC Team in 2018.
 
 
CAROLINE SHELBY
Women’s Volleyball – Eastern University
Caroline Shelby (Lititz, Pa.) is a three-time All-MAC Freedom First Team selection (2017-19), earning MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year honors in 2017. Shelby led the Eagles to three-straight MAC Freedom title matches, including back-to-back conference titles in 2017 and 2018. She was named the 2017 MAC Freedom Championship Most Valuable Player (MVP) in her first season. Shelby was also named to the AVCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2017.
 
Shelby majored in psychology and earned her undergraduate degree in December 2020 with a 3.97 GPA. She was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll and the Women’s Volleyball Academic All-MAC Team in all three seasons. In 2019, she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team.


MACKENZIE BRUBAKER
Field Hockey – Messiah University
Mackenzie Brubaker (Manheim, Pa.) led the Falcons to three-straight MAC Commonwealth titles and three-straight NCAA tournament appearances. Messiah finished national runner-up in her first season on the team. In 2019, Brubaker was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team and to the NFHCA All-Region First Team.

Brubaker majored in music and worship and graduated in December 2020 with a 3.86 GPA. She was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Brubaker was named to the Field Hockey Academic All-MAC Team in 2019.
 
 
DAN GLAZEWSKI
Football – Stevenson University
Dan Glazewski (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) was named to the All-MAC Second Team in 2019 after starting in 11 games at right tackle for the Mustangs. The Mustangs were second in the league in points-per-game (36.3) and total yards (4,739), and ranked third in passing yards (3,253). Stevenson’s quarterback had the highest efficiency rating in the conference in 2019. Glazewski led Stevenson to three-straight postseason bowl games, including two Centennial-MAC Bowl Series games.
 
Glazewski is majoring in environmental science with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a 3.75 GPA, and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Glazewski was named to the 2019 Football Academic All-MAC Team.


TREVOR GOODLING
Men’s Soccer – Messiah University
Trevor Goodling (McAliserville, Pa.) was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team and the United Soccer Coaches all-region team in 2019. He led the MAC Commonwealth in goals (11), game-winning goals (7) and points (24) in 2019. Goodling was part of two MAC Commonwealth titles in three conference title game appearances. The Falcons won the NCAA Division III Championship in his first season.

Goodling is majoring in finance with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a 3.94 GPA. Goodling was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American Third Team in 2019. He was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times, and he was named to the 2019 Men’s Soccer Academic All-MAC Team.
 
 
BRIANNA WILLIAMS
Women’s Soccer – Arcadia University
Brianna Williams (Scarsdale, N.Y.) led Arcadia to three-straight NCAA tournament appearance (2017-19) and three-straight MAC Commonwealth title game appearances including a conference title in 2017. Williams was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team and the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team in 2019. In her junior season, she recorded a league-leading .866 save percentage, and ranked second in shutouts (10) and goals against average (0.53).
 
Williams is majoring in psychology with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2021. She currently holds a 3.58 GPA and has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. Williams was named to the Women’s Soccer Academic All-MAC Team in 2019.


NATE ROMBERGER
Men’s Cross Country – Messiah University
Nate Romberger (Lewisberry, Pa.) is a three-time All-MAC honoree at the MAC Cross Country Championships including a first-team finish (ninth) in 2019 and two second-team finishes in 2018 (12th) and 2017 (19th). Romberger helped lead the Falcons to conference team titles in both 2017 and 2018.

Romberger is majoring in mathematics with a teaching certification and is expected to graduate in the spring of 2021. He currently holds a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA). Romberger is a three-time MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient and was named to the Men’s Cross Country Academic All-MAC Team in 2019.

 
KERI JONES
Women’s Cross Country – Lebanon Valley College
Keri Jones (Friendsville, Pa.) was named the MAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2019 after winning the 2019 MAC individual title. Jones ran the fastest (6K) winning time in MAC Championship history with a time of 21:34.3. She went on to finish fifth out of 349 runners at NCAA regionals to advance to the 2019 NCAA Division III Championship where she finished 46th. Jones earned All-MAC Second Team honors (20th) in 2018 and All-MAC Third Team honors (25th) in 2017.
 
Jones is majoring in physical therapy with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2022 with her doctorate degree. Jones earned her undergraduate degree in 2020. She currently holds a 3.99 GPA. Jones has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll three times. She was named to the Women’s Cross Country Academic All-MAC Team and the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in 2019.
