It has been two years since official conference soccer competition took place. In 2019, the Messiah Falcons captured their 18th conference title with a 2-1 victory over Lycoming. Eastern won its fourth MAC Freedom title a season ago with a 3-1 win over King’s.
The Falcons advanced to the NCAA sectional semifinal before falling to Rensselaer in overtime. Messiah finished the 2019 season with an 18-3-2 record and a No. 9 national ranking. Eastern fell to Christopher Newport in the first round of the national tournament to cap the season with a 12-4-2 record.
The United Soccer Coaches announced its NCAA Division III Men’s Top-25 Preseason Poll earlier this month. Messiah was positioned where it left off in 2019 at No. 9.
The 2021 season is set to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Conference play will begin on Saturday, Oct. 2 with an eight-game five-week schedule.
The 2021 MAC Commonwealth Men’s Soccer Championship is set for Nov. 1-6. The top-five seeds will battle for the conference title and the NCAA Division III Championship automatic qualifier (AQ).
