NEWTOWN, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending October 22, 2023. A total of 23 student-athletes were recognized for performances from Oct. 16, 2023 to Oct. 22, 2023.
CROSS COUNTRY (#MACxc)
MAC Men’s Runner of the Week
Aden Davis (Lebanon Valley / Fr. / Spring Grove, Pa.) led the Dutchmen to a third-place finish at the Last Chance Run Fast Invitational on Friday with a time of 27:50.67 to finish 25th out of 144 runners. The Dutchmen finished third as a team to Division I Navy and DeSales despite not running their top runners.
MAC Women’s Runner of the Week
Dani Fetterolf (Lebanon Valley / Jr. / Millheim, Pa.) had a season-best time of 28:18.43 to finish 34th overall out of 91 runners on Friday at the Last Chance Run Fast Invitational. The junior was the top Dutchmen finisher in a race that was delayed due to lightning and then started in a downpour. The Dutchmen finished seventh as a team despite not running their top runners.
FIELD HOCKEY (#MACfh)
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Emma Gladstein (Stevenson / Sr., F / Sykesville, Md.) scored her 15th and 16th goals of the season on Saturday against Eastern while adding her eighth assist in the 4-0 win. Her goal total leads the MAC Commonwealth by five, her assist total by two, and her point total (40) by 16. She also leads the conference in shots (69) and shots on goal (47) after this week's contests.
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Brooke Cordisco (York / Sr., D / Levittown, Pa.) led an impressive Spartan defensive performance as the Spartans went 2-0 for the week as the #8 Spartans improved their win streak to five. In Wednesday's road shut out of Eastern, Cordisco and the Spartan defense limited the Eagles to just one first quarter shot. While Cordisco and the defense were humming, the senior got in on the scoring act for the first time this year. She notched the game's first goal off a corner a mere 1:17 into the game. That kick started a three-goal first quarter spurt for the Spartans. Cordisco then capped the scoring on another penalty corner
goal in the 47th minute of the game. In Saturday's win over Widener, Cordisco spearheaded a defensive effort that did not allow Widener to even get into the Spartan defensive circle as they were held without a shot in the game. It's the second time during the five game win streak that the Spartans have held an opponent without a single shot attempt. For the season, the Spartan defense has limited opponents to a 0.53 goals per game average while opponents attempt an average of 5.5 shots per game.
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Jordyne Stong (DeSales / So., F / Collegeville, Pa.) helped the Bulldogs go 2-0 last week with a 4-1 win over FDU-Florham and a 7-1 win over King's College. She led the way with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Stong had three goals and an assist in the win over FDU-Florham and added a goal and an assist vs. King's College.
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Catie Mcgrath (DeSales / Sr., M / Wayne, N.J.) is the catalyst of a defense that allowed just two goals and seven shots in two games, both wins, last week. She led a defense that allowed just two shots in the 4-1 win over FDU-Florham and just five shots in the win over King's College. McGrath added one goal in each of the games for two goals on the week.
FOOTBALL (#MACfb)
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Russell Minor-Shaw (King’s / Sr., QB / Radnor, Pa.) did it all for King's to help secure a 28-18 win over Eastern to remain unbeaten at home. He completed 11 passes on 14 attempts (78.6%) for 175 yards with two touchdowns while also adding 123 rushing yards on 15 carries at 8.2 yards per carry with two touchdowns.
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Justin Rutkowski (Stevenson / Sr., DB / Ashburn, Va.) had two interceptions for a total of 65 yards including a 65-yard pick-six in Stevenson's win over Misericordia
MAC Special Teams Player of the Week
Ryan Pattison (Widener / Jr., K / Cherry Hill, N.J.) had a standout week for the Pride and helped push them to a 48-3 win over Albright on the road. Pattison would open the scoring gates with a 31-yard field goal five minutes into the game. Later in the quarter he would drill a 45-yard field goal. As the Pride scored, Pattison would go 6-for-6 on PATs.
MEN’S SOCCER (#MACsoc)
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Cristian Topovich (Alvernia / Fr., M / Frederick Md.) recorded two goals in a 1-1 week for Alvernia. Topovich came off the bench and scored Alvernia's final two goals in a 3-0 win over Albright. The two goals came within three minutes of each other. He then played 44 minutes against Messiah on Saturday, helping to hold the #1 Falcons to just one goal.
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Evan Solley (Alvernia / Jr., GK / Reading, Pa.) allowed just one goal while combining for 10 saves in a 1-1 week for the Golden Wolves. Solley recorded his fourth shutout of the season on Wednesday with a four-save performance at Albright. Solley then allowed just one goal against #1 Messiah University in a 1-0 setback on Saturday, but he made six saves during the game to keep Alvernia in it the entire way.
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Connor Given (Lebanon Valley / Sr., M / Harrisburg, Pa.) had a huge week for the Dutchmen with a goal and two assists in a 1-0-1 week. The senior assisted on the first goal of the game with a beautiful free kick into the box that was headed into goal by Nathan Prex during a 1-1 tie at DeSales. Given then had an amazing Senior Day in the last home game of the year with a
goal and an assist in a 5-1 victory over King's to clinch a spot in the MAC Freedom Championships. Given scored the first goal of the game in the 19th minute on a free kick attempt through a wall for his first career goal. He then assisted on the final goal of the game in the 85th minute on another beautifully-place service into the box for a header.
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Dalton Fitterling (Lebanon Valley / Sr., GK / Womelsdorf, Pa.) led the Dutchmen to a 1-0-1 week in which the team clinched a spot in the MAC Freedom Championships with 14 saves while facing 32 shots and allowing just two goals. The senior made a season-high nine saves including a big save on a penalty kick attempt to end the first half of a 1-1 tie at DeSales. The
Dutchmen defense allowed a season-high 21 shots and 10 on goal in the game. He ended the week with five saves on Senior Day at Herbert Field in a 5-1 victory over King's to clinch a postseason berth. King's put six of their 11 shots on goal.
WOMEN’S SOCCER (#MACsoc)
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Meg Kalthof (York / Fr., F / Bel Air, Md.) scored both of York's goals in their 2-1 win over Eastern. She opened the scoring in the 20th minute with an unassisted goal. After Eastern tied the game in the 80th minute, Kalthof allowed the Spartans to escape with the win as she scored an unassisted goal in the 87th minute. In Saturday's win at Hood, Kalthof tied the game
in the 19th minute for her fifth straight goal. The Spartans would go on to notch the game-winner in the 43rd minute. For the week, Kalthof scored three of the Spartans' four goals while she has scored five of six on the Spartans' recent three-game win streak. For the season, Kalthof leads the team with 17 points on seven goals and three assists with two game-winning
goals.
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Samantha Coon (Widener / Sr., GK / Mount Laurel, N.J.) recorded two shutouts during both games. In her 90 minutes played in a 2-0 Pride win over Stevenson, Coon recorded seven saves on the road. On Saturday, Coon celebrated her Senior Day in a 1-0 win after facing one shot. With her second shutout of the week, Coon became Widener's All-Time Leader in Career Shutouts over the course of three seasons with 16.1 to break Nana Addo's 15.9 from 1995-97.
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Rachel Rouse (Stevens / Gr., M / Greensboro, N.C.) totaled three goals and an assist for the Ducks, who defeated both King's (8-0) and Arcadia (3-0).
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Jozlyn Minnema (DeSales / Sr., GK / Coopersburg, Pa.) helped the Bulldogs post a 2-0 record last week with wins over Lebanon Valley College and FDU-Florham. She had one save and recorded her first career shutout in the won over LVC on Tuesday and added five saves and allowed just one goal in the 3-1 win over the Devils on Saturday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL (#MACvb)
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Sophie Hampton (Albright / Jr., OH / Moorestown, N.J.) helped the Lions to a 2-1 week winning their 14th and 15th games of the season. The two wins came in a sweep of a tri-match against Rutgers-Newark and King's College (Pa.). The win over King's College was the since 2015 for Albright. Hampton led Albright in kills in all three games this past week. Hampton
totaled 41 kills across the three games while scoring 42.5 points. Additionally, Hampton had a .258 attack percentage carrying Albright to victory. Hampton put together back to back impressive games in the tri-match going for 16 kills and 11 digs in game one and 18 kills and 14 digs in game two.
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Mackenzie Feight (Messiah / Sr., OH / Coopersburg, Pa.) had an impressive defensive week for the Falcons. Feight totaled 33 digs on the week and added in 26 kills and six service aces. In the 3-1 win over Hood, Feight finished with 12 digs to help counter the Blazers attack. In the sweeps of Gordon and Kean on Saturday, Feight again had a strong effort on the defensive
end with 21 digs on the day.
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Estefania Martinez-Sola (Arcadia / Sr., S / Caguas, PR) tallied 17 kills, 45 assists, 29 digs and 7 aces in the Knights 1-0 in conference and 3-0 overall week. She earned a triple double in Arcadia's 3-1 win over Widener with 10 kills, 22 assists and 15 digs. Martinez-Sola set her season high assists of 29 in their 3-0 win over Marywood, along with 4 kills, 2 aces and 7 digs.
She also served a season high aces in the Knights 3-0 sweep over MAC Freedom competition FDU-Florham, along with 3 kills, 14 assists and 7 digs.
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Madison Sappia (Stevens / Sr., L / Wellington, Fla.) averaged 5.64 digs per set as Stevens picked up a conference win over King's and a non-conference win at Scranton, while dropping a four-set contest to No. 1 Juniata. Sappia totaled 62 digs and eight aces.
MEN’S SWIMMING (#MACswim)
MAC Swimmer of the Week
Gannon Schwalm (Misericordia / So., Dover, Pa.) three individual events and a relay in a season-opening loss to Arcadia. He won the 200 free (1:50), 200 back (2:06.04) and 200 IM (2:04.66) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:41.07). His 200 free and 200 back times are fifth in the MAC this season and 200 IM is sixth. The 200 medley relay is fourth in the MAC.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING (#MACswim)
MAC Swimmer of the Week
Tamsin Formon (Misericordia / So. / Gillette, N.J.) won three individual events to lead the Cougars to a 133-128 win over Arcadia in their season opener. Won the 500 free (5:32.7), 1000 free (11:18.94) and 200 IM (2:19.73). Her 1000 free is the top time in the MAC by nearly 30 seconds while her 500 free time is also the top time in the MAC. Her 200 IM time is fourth in
the MAC this season.
