United Soccer Coaches Release
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Men's Soccer) – On Friday, Brad McCarty and the Messiah men's soccer coaching staff was honored as the NCAA Division III Regional Coaching Staff of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches. McCarty and company led the Falcons to an overall record of 20-1-1 and the program's 21st Conference Championship.
Head coach Brad McCarty is joined on the sidelines by assistant coaches Aaron Faro (14th season), Justin Johnson (fifth season), Benji Kennel (fourth season), Elijah Steffen (third season), and Trevor Goodling (second season).
The Falcons rolled through the regular season allowing just six goals and posting a 17-0-1 record. The Falcons started the year with five-straight shutouts before drawing Salisbury 1-1 on Sept. 16. After that draw, Messiah rattled off 15-straight victories to move into the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Despite falling 1-0 against Ohio Northern in the Second Round of the Tournament, Messiah finished the year with 20 wins and a 3-0 victory over Widener for the program's 21st Conference Championship in program history.
In his 14 years at the helm of Messiah men's soccer, McCarty has led the Falcons to an overall record of 286-20-19 with 11 Conference Titles and five National Championships.
The Falcons' coaching staff will be put into the mix for the National Coaching Staff of the Year, an honor they have taken home three times with McCarty in charge (2009, 2012, and 2017). As a program, Messiah men's soccer has been named the National Coaching Staff of the Year eight times.
