Hoboken, N.J. (July 24, 2025) – Emily Leiby of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team, who recently completed her five-year playing career, was named the Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), the organization announced Thursday.

Leiby becomes the first student-athlete in program history to earn the prestigious IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor. Nominees must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of athletic eligibility, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, and be a starter or significant contributor to their team.

"Emily Leiby is an incredibly deserving recipient of the IWLCA D3 Scholar Athlete Award," said Head Coach Maddie Buechli. "Emily is one of the most dedicated and hardworking individuals I've had the privilege to coach. Whether on the field, in the classroom or in the workplace, Emily gives her absolute best in everything she does. Watching her grow over the years both as an athlete and a student has been a true honor. I have no doubt she will continue to do great things. I am immensely proud of all she has accomplished here at Stevens."

A native of Schnecksville, Pa., Leiby was named an All-American for the first time in 2025 after leading the Ducks with 92 points, including 58 goals and 34 assists. The graduate student also earned MAC Freedom Attacker of the Year honors and added 34 ground balls, 25 caused turnovers, and 23 draw controls. She surpassed the 200-point milestone during the season and concluded her career with 249 points on 172 goals and 77 assists.

Notable performances included a four-goal, three-assist outing against Haverford and a six-goal effort in the MAC Freedom Championship win over Misericordia. Over five postseason games, she tallied 16 goals and five assists, including a five-goal performance on five shots in the NCAA Tournament First Round win over George Fox.

Off the field, Leiby maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout the academic year. A five-time MAC Academic Honor Roll selection and IWLCA Academic Honor Roll honoree, she has received numerous prestigious awards and scholarships, including the DoD SMART Scholarship, the Edwin "Doc" Farrell Award, and the Stevens Harold J. Raveché Award for academic and athletic excellence.

She also earned multiple engineering scholarships and successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. Additionally, Leiby was honored with the Robert Ridgeway Award for her leadership and contributions to the American Society of Civil Engineers.
