Witt Named MAC Women's Wrestler of the Year; Haines Named MAC Rookie of the Year

Eastern and York collect major awards

NEWTOWN, Pa. (Women's Wrestling) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its inaugural major awards for women's wrestling on Wednesday. Eastern's Savannah Witt was named MAC Women's Wrestler of the Year, while teammate Zoey Haines was named MAC Rookie of the Year. Eastern's head coach Andrew Taylor and York's head coach Duane Bastress were each named MAC Co-Coach of the Year.

The awards are nominated and voted on by the six conference wrestling coaches.

Witt won the 2026 MAC Inaugural and NCAA Region 2 Regional titles and advanced to the NCAA Championship at 124 pounds. The first-year came in as a six seed, won by fall in 34 seconds in her opening match. She lost by fall in the second round to third-seed Xochitl Mota-Pettis from Quincy College. The loss was her first to a collegiate wrestler this year. On day two, Witt dropped her first match of the day and won the next match via an 11-4 decision to earn NCAA All-America honors with a seventh place finish.

Haines won the 2026 MAC Inaugural and NCAA Region 2 Regional titles and advanced to the NCAA Championship at 145 pounds. On day one of the NCAA Championshhips, she would start the day with a loss in the opening round that pushed her into the consolation bracket. In the consolation bracket, Haines had to face elimination twice more to earn a spot in the placement round. She handled business with two pins. Neither fall took more than a minute. On day two, Haines wrestled for seventh place but would drop the match via decision. Haines earned NCAA All-America honors with an eighth place finish in Iowa. 

Eastern's Andrew Taylor and York's Duane Bastress were each named MAC Co-Coach of the Year in the inaugural season. York claimed the MAC inaugural title, as they finished with three individual titles and eight All-MAC honors. Eastern finished runner-up at the championships, with eight All-MAC honors and had five competitors at the NCAA National Tournament.
