Hoboken, N.J. – Leyla Castro of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team was named Second Team All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, it was announced Monday.
The senior guard earned her second consecutive Second Team All-Met honor. Castro closed out her career on Castle Point with three All-Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom selections and was named the MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year in 2023.
Castro ranked in the top three in conference play in points (14.8), assists (4.7), and steals (2.6) per game, while becoming the 14th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. She started every game for the Ducks for the second straight season and reached double figures 19 times, including 12 games with 15 or more points. Her scoring prowess did not come at the expense of distributing, as she also recorded at least six assists in 10 games. Defensively, Castro's aggressive play led to 18 games with multiple steals, including 12 with three or more, while she committed just 2.3 fouls per game. She also averaged 5.1 rebounds per game, with seven contests of seven or more boards.
The Old Bridge native knocked down 176 three-pointers over her four seasons and dished out 409 assists. She also totaled 451 rebounds and 255 steals while averaging 12.0 points per game across 106 career appearances.
