ANNVILLE, Pa. (Men’s Volleyball) – The Stevens Ducks were selected as the favorite in the 2020 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men’s Volleyball Coaches’ Preseason Poll, voted on by the MAC men’s volleyball coaches. The Ducks collected all nine first-place votes from the opposing conference coaches for a total of 81 points.
Arcadia collected 73 points to rank second in the poll, while Stevenson followed in third with 63 points. Messiah received 58 points and Misericordia collected 47 points to round out the top-5.
The rest of the preseason poll, in respective order, were Alvernia (44 points), Eastern (25 points), Wilkes (25 points), Widener (18 points) and King’s (16 points).
Stevens will be competing in its first season in the MAC, while King’s will begin its inaugural season of men’s volleyball this year to bring the conference sponsorship to 10 programs. The growth increases the conference championship access from four to five teams beginning this year.
The conference tournament will open with the No. 4/5 Play-In game on Monday, April 6. The semifinal round (No. 4/5 at No. 1; No. 3 at No. 2) will take place on Wednesday, April 8. The championship will conclude on Saturday, April 11 with the title match (at highest remaining seed).
Arcadia captured the 2019 MAC title a season ago. The Knights finished their regular-season conference slate with a 13-1 record. Arcadia fell in the first round of the NCAA Championship to Rivier.
Stevens finished the 2019 season with a. 28-6 overall record and an 8-1 record in the United Volleyball Conference. The Ducks fell in the UVC title match, but made a run to the NCAA semifinal round where they fell to UC Santa Cruz. Stevens defeated Wells in the quarterfinal round.
Joining Arcadia (1) at the 2019 MAC Championship were Stevenson (2), Messiah (3) and Misericordia (4). The Knights and Mustangs both won their semifinal matches by scores of 3-0. Then Arcadia won an “instant classic” title match over Stevenson, 3-2.
