INDIANAPOLIS (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) is proud to
announce its four 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year conference nominees, including Alvernia’s Sarah Reinert, DeSales’ Averi Jordan, Messiah’s Esther Seeland and Stevens’ Elizabeth Chu.
“The MAC is thrilled to be nominating these four outstanding women. They have excelled in the classroom and contributed to their communities in impactful ways, all while working hard to achieve success in their sports,” said Megan Morrison, MAC Executive Director.
Reinert will move forward as the MAC Commonwealth nominee, Jordan and Chu will represent the MAC Freedom and Seeland will be the MAC nominee.
Sarah Reinert - Alvernia Softball (MAC Commonwealth)
Reinert, an Alvernia graduate with an undergraduate degree in healthcare science and a master’s degree in athletic training, was a five-year member of the Alvernia softball team. She started 121 games for the Golden Wolves and became the program’s all-time hit leader on April 24, finishing the career with a total of 208.
Academically, Reinert is a five-time MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient, a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree and a 10-time Alvernia Dean’s List honoree. In 2021, she was named CoSIDA Academic All-District and followed with the Academic All-America honor. Full accolades can be read here.
Averi Jordan - DeSales Women’s Basketball (MAC Freedom)
Jordan, a nursing major, was a four-year member of the DeSales women’s basketball team. Jordan had a very successful four years both on the court and in the classroom. She led the MAC Freedom in field goals (166) and points (470) to be named the MAC Freedom Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and later be named D3hoops.com’s Regional Player of the Year, also for the second consecutive year.
Jordan also earned academic recognition as a four-time MAC Winter Academic Honor Roll recipient, three-time Academic All-MAC honoree and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American. In her senior year alone, she was named a 2022 MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete, a 2022 Josten’s Trophy Top-10 Finalist and was awarded the 2022 President’s Medal of Honor from DeSales. Elizabeth Chu - Stevens Women’s Volleyball (MAC Freedom)
Chu, a chemical biology major and market minor, was a four-year member of the Stevens women’s volleyball team. She is a two-time recipient of the MAC Defensive Player of the Year award after leading the conference recording 500-plus digs in the 2019 and 2021 seasons. Chu capped her career with an American Volleyball Coaches’ Association Division III All-America Third Team honor. Full accolades can be read here.
Esther Seeland - Messiah Track & Field (MAC)
Seeland, a biomedical engineering graduate, is one of the most decorated athletes in MAC and Messiah history. While playing for Messiah’s women’s soccer team and running on both the indoor and outdoor track & field teams, Seeland became a six-time national champion; one soccer title and five individual indoor and outdoor track titles.
She is a five-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, three for track & field and two for soccer, and the 2019 Elite 90 Award recipient for women’s soccer. Full accolades can be read here.
All conference nominees are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which
chooses the top 30 honorees—10 from each Division. From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three nominees from each Division and announces the top nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics then will choose the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year, who will be named this fall.
