ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending Jan. 15, 2023. A total of 17 student-athletes were recognized for performances from Jan. 9-15, 2023.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Malik Green (Alvernia / Sr., F / Philadelphia, Pa.) earns his third conference weekly award this season. Green averaged 29.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Alvernia. He finished the week with 18 field goals -- including nine three pointers and 14 made free throws. In a 66-55 win over Messiah on Wednesday, Green finished with 17 points on 4-for-8 shooting and eight made free throws. He also added seven rebounds. In an 87-86 loss to Hood on Saturday, Green scored a career-high 42 points. He finished with eight made free throws and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Jalen Watkins (Arcadia / Sr., F / Philadelphia, Pa.) earns his second conference weekly award this season. Watkins collected 49 points, 19 rebounds and six blocks on the Knights 1-1 week. Against Stevens, Watkins earned a double-double, scoring his second 30-point game of the season with 33 points and 13 rebounds. He shot 66.66% from inside the three-point line to lead Arcadia to a 74-61 conference win over Stevens. Watkins also scored 16 points and recorded six rebounds in their match up against DeSales.

MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Mackenzie Dover (Albright / So., G / West Orange, N.J.) was fantastic this past week for Albright leading the team to a perfect 2-0 week. Dover had it going from everywhere on the floor scoring 32 points, grabbing 18 rebounds, dishing out nine assists and two steals across the two games. The sophomore guard earned a new career high in rebounds in a single game with 13 against Eastern on January 11. The career high rebounding total was in the midst of Dover's ridiculous stat line on January 11, going for 20 points, 13 rebounds and six assists against Eastern.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Jess Broad (Stevens / Gr., G/F / Morganville, N.J.) earns her second conference weekly award this season. Broad averaged 25.5 points and seven rebounds across a pair of wins for No. 17 Stevens. Against Arcadia, Broad had 23 points with 11 boards for her third double-double of the season. She then topped that performance by pouring in 28 points on 14-of-19 shooting in the Ducks victory over Lycoming. All totaled, Broad had 51 points, 14 rebounds, 10 steals, seven assists and five blocks. She shot 24-for-35 (68.6%) and made all three of her free throws.

MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Cam Lowe (Wilkes / Fr., F / Lancaster, Mass.) scored five points in two games this week, including a career-high four goals against Arcadia as Wilkes went 2-0 during the weekend. Lowe began the week with an assist and had a block in the first game as Wilkes won 4-1 against Arcadia. He then followed with four goals in five shots in the Colonels 6-3 win over the Knights, scoring the first two goals and last two goals for Wilkes.
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Marko Sturma (Stevenson / Sr., GK / Poprad, Slovakia) picked up his first two wins of the season in a weekend sweep of Lebanon Valley including an 18-save shutout. Sturma tallied 47 saves and surrendered just two goals in the series for a .959 save percentage.
WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY (#MAChky)
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Julia Franklin (Alvernia / So., F / Harrisburg, Pa.) finished a 2-0 weekend with two goals and two assists. In a 4-1 win over Stevenson on Saturday, Franklin had one goal, added an assist, and finished with two blocks. In a 3-0 win against the Mustangs on Saturday, she repeated with one goal and one assist.
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Julia Beaven (Alvernia / Sr., GK / Seaforth, Ontario) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Beaven led Alvernia to a 2-0 week against the Stevenson with 39 saves and a shutout victory. In a 4-1 win over Stevenson on Friday, Beaven tallied 22 saves. She then added 17 saves in a 3-0 shutout over the Mustangs on Saturday.

MAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Keith Chatmon (York / Sr. / Upper Marlboro, Md.) had a strong showing at the Alvernia Winter Invitational on Saturday for the Spartans. Chatmon finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46, the best mark in the event in the conference so far this year. Chatmon also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.69. That time is the ninth best in the conference so far this year and is a new PR for the Spartan senior.
MAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Ayden Stankus (Lebanon Valley / So. / Harleysville, Pa.) broke a 31-year-old school record in the pole vault and recorded the 24th-best height in the nation at 4.50 meters (14'9") at the Dutchmen Invitational. The sophomore is second in the Mid-Atlantic Region, first in the MAC, and eighth in the AARTFC with his vault.
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf)
MAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Kristen Williams (Stevens / Sr. / Reston, Va.) set a new PR in winning the 60-meter hurdles at the Alvernia Winter Invite. She won the race in a time of 9.17 seconds, tying for 21st in Division III.
MAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Julia Pena (York / Sr. / Highland Mills, N.Y.) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Pena continued the hot start to her season with two more wins and a seventh on the day. Pena won the pole vault with a height of 3.55 meters and captured victory in the long jump with a best leap of 5.29 meters. She also finished seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.34. In two indoor meets this year, Pena has four first place finishes, one second, one fourth and one seventh for the Spartans. Pena owns the best height cleared in the pole vault so far this year in the conference while she is also tops in the league in the long jump. Pena is currently third in the 60 hurdles.
SWIMMING (#MACswim)
MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week
Ian D’Angiolillo (Stevenson / Jr. / Rockaway, N.J.) set three Stevenson University records and won four heat races in the Mustangs’ sweep over Lebanon Valley. D'Angiolillo set short course records in the 400m IM (5:09.65), 50m freestyle (26.07), and the 200m backstroke (2:27.22). All three records were heat wins -- the junior also won the 200m IM with a time of 2:26.64.
MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week
Tamsin Formon (Misericordia / Fr. / Gillette, N.J.) earns her third conference weekly award this season. Formon won four individual events in a pair of convincing wins over Marywood and Wilkes. Won the 100m fly (1:03.52) and 500m free (5:24.94) against Marywood and 100m free (56.06) and 1000m free (11:05.28) against Wilkes. She also notched a victory in the 200m medley relay.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL (#MACvb)
MAC Men’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Percy Bickford (Stevens / Sr. / Santa Monica, Calif.) totaled 31 kills on 52 attacks with just five errors (.500 hitting percentage) as the Ducks opened the season with wins over Marymount, No. 9 St. John Fisher and St. Joseph's College (L.I.). After opening with just four kills in the Ducks' sweep of Marymount, Bickford was outstanding against SJFC, finishing with 14 kills on 18 attacks with just one error. Additionally, Bickford finished with four blocks, 16 digs, two aces and a pair of assists.
MAC Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Benjamin Clendening (Misericordia / Fr. / Langhorne, Pa.) led the team with eight blocks (1.33/set) in his collegiate debut. He recorded five blocks in a loss to No. 9 St. John Fisher and had three blocks in a 3-1 win over Cairn.
WRESTLING (#MACwrestle)
MAC Wrestler of the Week
Kyle Slendorn (Stevens / Sr. / Ramtown, N.J.) took home all-tournament honors at 141 at the Budd Whitehill Tournament. Slendorn captured the weight class title by scoring pins in each of his four matches. The senior’s four pins decided all four of his team’s wins against No. 21 Ithaca, Wesleyan, Wilkes and SUNY Cortland.
