GREENSBORO, N.C. – GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Messiah University women's swim team had two swimmers that qualified for the 2024 NCAA National Championships this week. Abigail Soerens and Evangeline Soerens each qualified for the NCAA National Championships in the 200 breast and with the qualifying race, they can select two other races to compete in as well. On day four, both Evangeline Soerens and Abigail Soerens competed in the 200 breast. Evangeline Soerens became the first swimmer in program history to compete in the Championship Finals race and second All American in program history.
Saturday, March 23 Update
Evangeline Soerens became the first ever swimmer in program history to earn a trip to the Championship Final Race in the NCAA Championships with her eighth-place finish in the preliminary race of the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.20. With the top-eighth finish locked in place, Soerens earned just the second All-American honors in program history, as well. In the finals race, Soerens jumped a spot and finished seventh with a time of 2:17.31, jumping a spot and defeating the eighth-place swimmer by more than a second.
Abigail Soerens also competed in the 200 breast in the final day of the NCAA Championships. Soerens entered the race with a seed time of 2:21.16 and finished the preliminary race with a time of 2:21.22 just missing her seed time by .06 of a second.
Friday, March 22 Update
Evangeline Soerens had an impressive 100 breast race in the preliminary races. She finished in 20th place, just missing the cut for the finals race by .54 of a second. With her time of 1:03.92, Soerens broke her own program record that was previously set at 1:04.09.
Abigail Soerens also competed in the 100 breast to prep for the 200 breast tomorrow. Soerens came into the race with a seed time of 1:04.58, which is the second-best time in program history in the 100 breast. Soerens finished just short of her seed time, finishing with a time of 1:04.96.
Wednesday, March 20 Update
Evangeline Soerens started the 2024 NCAA National Championships competing in the 200 IM. Soerens entered the race with a seed time of 2:19.91 and finished five seconds faster in the preliminary race with a time of 2:14.83.
Abigail Soerens competed in the 50 free for her first event of the 2024 NCAA National Championships. Soerens came into the race with a seed time of 25.23 and then in the preliminary race she finished around her seed time with a 25.80 finish.
