York College is deeply saddened to share the passing of our colleague and friend, Scott Guise, Director of Athletic Communications, who served the College with dedication for 30 years.

Scott joined York College in 1995 and spent the next three decades shaping the story of Spartan athletics. He worked tirelessly to ensure every team and every student-athlete got the recognition they deserved. Scott approached every task with precision, humility, and a genuine love for the work.

He was there for some of York College's most defining athletic moments, including the men's basketball team's 2005 Final Four run, capturing the achievements that brought pride to students, alumni, and Spartan fans alike. More importantly, he never overlooked the small moments. Countless student-athletes have shared how much it meant when Scott would reach out after a great play or a hard-fought game, even when he wasn't on the road with the team. His care was constant, quiet, and unmistakably genuine.

"Scott's connection to all things Spartan—especially our student-athletes and staff—extended far beyond his professional role," said Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia. "What affected any of us affected him, and, almost to a fault, he found that difficult to hide. He didn't just tell our story; he was a part of it. We've always considered York College Athletics a family, and Scott will always hold a special place within it."

In recent years, Scott faced significant medical challenges. Yet he remained a steady presence at athletic events, either behind a camera, on a headset, or even on his laptop while receiving treatment. His loyalty to Spartan athletics never wavered. In recognition of this, Scott was named the 2025 recipient of the Middle Atlantic Conference Giant Steps Award, honoring those who inspire others through perseverance and service.

"Scott is a true inspiration in many ways, most notably in his approach to facing his recent health battles," Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Derek Behrenshausen said. "He faced a rigorous treatment schedule and displayed immense determination to persevere no matter the circumstances. He did all this while continuing to serve the York College community at a high level. He will be deeply missed, but his impact will continue to provide strength and inspiration to all who knew him."

Scott's impact is immeasurable, not just because of the thousands of games, statistics, and stories he produced, but because of the steady kindness, calm leadership, and strength he brought to York College.

"York College's motto is 'Servire Est Vivere' – To Serve is to Live. I'm not sure there is a better example of this than Scott. He served York College, our department, coaches, and student-athletes in so many ways. Whether it was on the sideline taking pictures, in the press box on the microphone, stopping by colleagues' offices to check in, or in the athletic training room talking to student-athletes, he was always there, and you always knew he cared. Scott's impact is immeasurable; he was a true Spartan and will be missed by all," Associate Athletic Director Matt Day said.

"Scott was the face of York College Athletics that every student-athlete knew and loved," former Women's Basketball Coach Betsy Witman said. "He was passionate about all YCP sports programs and shared their successes with everyone who followed the Spartans. His smile was infectious and his strength and courage was unmatched. I will truly miss my friend and coworker of the past 28 years."

York College's Director of Communications, Julie Loeper, shared her reflections on working alongside Scott.

"He set a standard the rest of us tried to match. Scott's work ethic was unmatched and inspiring. He approached every challenge head-on, and he did it without seeking attention or credit. We are better because we worked with Scott," she said.
York College extends its deepest condolences to Scott's family, his colleagues, the student-athletes he championed, and the countless individuals whose lives he touched. His presence will be profoundly missed, and his legacy will endure in every Spartan story he helped tell.

There will be a moment of silence before the start of the men's and women's basketball home games on Saturday, December 6, as well as before the New Standard Invitational for men's and women's wrestling, also on Saturday. All events will be in the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center as York College honors the life, legacy, and lasting impact of Scott Guise.
