ANNAPOLIS, MD – The York College men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to North Carolina Wesleyan in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Tournament in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Battling Bishops, who are ranked 35
th in the nation, advance to face pod host Johns Hopkins on Saturday while the loss ends the Spartans outstanding season. North Carolina Wesleyan improves to 13-12 overall while the Spartans see their year come-to-a-close with a school record mark of 15-3. The 15 wins established a new school record for wins in a season while the loss snaps a school-record nine game win streak.
The Bishops swept the doubles point as they posted a win at second doubles Brody Brice and Logan Stoltz defeated
Ian Bartles and
Jason Lutz to seize the early advantage. Wesleyan captured the doubles point with a third doubles win as Francesco Raparo and Bohdan Zhylchuk combined to down
Drew Heinzelmann and
Hayden Musser. The loss snaps Heinzelmann's eight match doubles win streak while the loss ended Musser's six-match doubles winning streak.
The Bishops pushed the lead to 2-0 with a Stoltz fifth singles win over
Evan Stehman. Shori Nishizoe posted a win over Musser in the sixth singles match to make it 3-0 in favor of NC Wesleyan. The Bishops closed out the match with a Zhylchuk third singles win over Heinzelmann to give Wesleyan their clinching fourth point, finishing off the match.
Musser concluded his season with a singles record of 12-3 while Heinzelmann was right behind him with a mark of 11-2.
Ben Dorsey also reached double figures in wins as he was 10-4 for the year.
In doubles play, Musser was 12-5 while
Ian Bartles registered ten wins for the Spartans. Heinzelmann concluded his season with an 8-1 doubles mark.
The loss concludes the Spartans 2024-25 season. York must now say good-bye to seniors

Evan Stehman. They will be forever linked together in Spartan history as they are the first senior class to earn a conference men's tennis championship after winning the MAC Commonwealth last weekend.
