Brunswick, Maine – The No. 36 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team saw its NCAA Tournament run come to an end in the Second Round, falling 4-0 to No. 14 Babson College on Friday afternoon.
The Ducks finish the season at 14-8 and have now exited the NCAA Tournament in the Second Round for the fourth consecutive year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens dropped a tightly contested doubles point, losing two of three matches. Samvid Andhare and Aidan Miller fell 6-2 at the No. 2 position, giving Babson the early advantage. The Ducks responded as Vivek Harinarayan and Matt Luzzi evened things up with a 6-4 victory. The duo jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Babson rallied to win four straight games. Harinarayan and Luzzi regrouped and won the final three games to secure the win. The doubles point came down to a tiebreak at the No. 1 position. Olof Persson and Max-William Kanz were edged 7-6 (7-3) despite leading 3-0 and 5-4 during the set.
In singles play, the Ducks fought hard but were unable to register a win. Noah Pe fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5, while Persson was defeated 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6. Babson clinched the match at No. 3, where Andhare dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision. At the time the match was called, Harinarayan had taken the first set at No. 4 in a tiebreak, 7-6. Miller was mounting a comeback after dropping the first set 6-3 and led 4-3 in the second. Kanz trailed 6-3, 2-1 at the top of the lineup.
