MADISON, N.J. –
The FDU-Florham athletics department, Director of Athletics Kristin Giotta, and Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities & Operations Jason Madsen are thrilled to announce the hiring of Garrett deMarrais as the Devils next head baseball coach. deMarrais begins his FDU-Florham chapter on Monday, Aug. 11.
deMarrais comes to FDU-Florham from MAC Freedom rival Misericordia University. While with the Cougars, deMarrais served as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator. Over his three seasons in Dallas, Pa., he helped lead the Cougars to 110 wins and was part of the 2024 D3 National Championship winning team that went onto defeat Wisconsin-Whitewater two games to one in the best-of-three series in Eastlake, Ohio.

The Cougars appeared in back-to-back MAC Freedom Championships in 2023 and 2024, having won it all in 2024, and securing their bid to the NCAA tournament. During deMarrais's tenure at Misericordia, he aided in the development and coaching of 16 All-Conference selections, nine All-Region honorees, and three All-Americans.
Under his assistance, the Cougars won back-to-back Regional and Super Regional titles, leading to consecutive D3 World Series appearances in 2023 and 2024, both years in which Misericordia was in the top 10 in the D3baseball.com rankings. Misericordia reached the No. 1 overall spot in 2024 and reached as high as No. 7 in 2023. In both years, the Cougars were ranked in the top 10 in runs scored with 477 in 2023 (No. 4) and 447 in 2024 (No. 7).

"The search committee is excited to welcome Garrett as our next baseball coach here at FDU. Throughout the process, Garrett put forth an exciting, well thought out, clear vision to help revitalize our baseball program," said Madsen. "We are thrilled to welcome him into our department of dedicated coaches and athletes. We are confident that Garrett will not only be an excellent leader for our baseball program, but also a positive contributor to the greater FDU community. We are excited to give him this opportunity that he has earned and can't wait to see his impact on the program."

While at Misericordia, deMarrais took on many roles as he was tasked with creating and implementing the team's speed, strength and conditioning, and arm care programs as well as the team's student advisor. He was tasked with executing fundraisers for the team's spring break trips, handling all social media responsibilities, organizing pre and postgame meals, and served as a member on the ABCA NCAA Division III Assistant Coaches Committee member.

"I am honored to have been named the next head baseball coach at FDU-Florham. I am extremely grateful that the hiring committee had the faith in me to take over a program that has the potential to achieve great things in the MAC Freedom," said deMarrais. "I would like to thank Kristin Giotta, Jason Madsen, and the rest of the committee for providing me the opportunity to lead this exceptional group of young men. I am looking forward to getting on campus and having the opportunity to work alongside the current members of the athletic department as well as a variety of different departments on campus."

Prior to his stint at Misericordia, deMarrais served as a part-time assistant coach at Stockton University where he managed the development of infielders and hitters, position specific practice plans, individual development plans, and day to day instruction for all hitters and infielders. He also spent time as the head coach for the 16U Northeast Supreme baseball team and was a U.S. history teacher at Absegami High School in Galloway, N.J. in the spring of 2022.

Before beginning his coaching career, deMarrais played baseball at Stockton from 2019-2021 where he was named captain and earned NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention all four years of his career. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science with a concentration in education from Stockton in 2021 followed by his Master of Business Administration and Sports Management from Misericordia in 2024.
