Commonwealth, Freedom Conference Volleyball Tournament Fields Set

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Volleyball) –
The 2014 Commonwealth Conference and Freedom Conference Volleyball Tournament fields have been set. The Stevenson Mustangs earned the top spot in the Commonwealth Tournament, while the Eastern Eagles earned the top seed in the Freedom Tournament. Action will get underway on Monday, Nov. 3.

The Commonwealth Conference Tournament will have a play-in game on Monday, Nov. 3. Fifth-seeded Widener (6-23, 3-4 Commonwealth) will travel to fourth-seeded Lycoming (17-14, 5-3 Commonwealth) for a 7 p.m. match. The Warriors swept the Pride, 3-0, on Sept. 24 in Chester, Pa. The winner will travel to top-seeded Stevenson (25-5, 8-0 Commonwealth) on Wednesday, Nov. 5 for a 7 p.m. match.

Second-seeded Lebanon Valley (24-5, 6-1 Commonwealth) will host third-seeded Messiah (23-7, 6-2 Commonwealth) on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The Dutchmen defeated the Falcons 3-0, in what were three closely fought sets, on Oct. 22.

The Commonwealth semifinal-round winners will advance to the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 8. The highest seed remaining will host the title game.

Eastern (26-5, 7-0 Freedom) locked up the top seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament and will host Wilkes (12-16, 3-4 Freedom) in the semifinal round on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The Eagles, who only lost one set in conference play this season, swept the Lady Colonels, 3-0, on Oct. 21.

Second-seeded DeSales (21-10, 6-1 Freedom) will host third-seeded Misericordia (17-18, 5-2 Freedom) on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs were able to outlast the Cougars on Oct. 21 by a score of 3-2. Misericordia won the opening and fourth sets, before falling 18-16 in the fifth set.

The Freedom semifinal-round winners will advance to the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 8. The highest seed remaining will host the title game.

Admission to the matches is set for $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for students and children under six-years-old are free. Long-sleeved championship t-shirts will also be on sale at the gate for $15.
