Misericordia University cross country standout Madison Hedglin has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week.

Hedglin set the school and course records to lead the Cougars to the team title at the Houghton (NY) Invitational.

She ran 21:14 to top the 188-runner field and break the Misericordia school record by one second.  She took 10 seconds off the Houghton Field of Dreams course mark.

Hedglin has two wins and a runner-up finish in three races in her first season of collegiate competition.

Misericordia is ranked third in the region and will compete at Connecticut College in the regular season finale, Saturday.
