Spartans Top Pick in MAC Commonwealth Women's Tennis Coaches' Preseason Poll

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Tennis) – The York Spartans were selected as the favorite in the 2022 conference preseason poll conducted among the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MAC Commonwealth) women’s tennis coaches. The Spartans collected six first-place votes from opposing coaches for a total of 48 points.

In 2021, York defeated Lebanon Valley 5-2 for the MAC Championship title earning them the program’s first win since joining the conference. Sophomore Elsa Oestermarker was awarded MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year. 

In the NCAA tournament, the Spartans made history beating Penn State Behrend 5-1 in the first round. York fell to No. 24 Denison 5-1 in the second round of the tournament. The Spartans ended their season with an 11-2 record and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.  

The 2022 season is set to begin Saturday, March 5. Conference play will begin on Saturday, Apr. 2 with a seven-match five-week schedule. 

The 2022 MAC Commonwealth Women’s Tennis Championship is set for May 3, 7. The top-four seeds will battle for the conference title and the NCAA Division III Championship automatic qualifier (AQ).
