MAC Weekly Awards Announcement (Sept. 20, 2022)

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending Sept. 19, 2022. Six student-athletes were recognized for performances from Sept. 13-19, 2022.

During the fall season golf and tennis weekly awards will be announced on Tuesdays following any competition that occurs during the fall segment of their seasons.

GOLF (#MACgolf)
MAC Commonwealth Men’s Golfer of the Week
Dylan Byers (Alvernia / Fy. / Waynesboro, Pa.) finished tied for ninth to lead Alvernia to a fourth place finish at the two-day Gettysburg Battle at the Burg tournament. Byers fired rounds of 77 and 75 for a two-day total of 152. He posted 13 pars in the first round and finished with 10 pars and two birdies in round two to improve his first round score by two strokes. 

MAC Freedom Men’s Golfer of the Week
Gus Vickers (Stevens / Jr. / Naples Fla.) earns his second consecutive conference weekly award of the season. Vickers tied for eighth at the George Cangero Invitational carding a two-day total of 143 for the event. At the FDU-Florham Fall Invite, Vickers scored his second career victory finishing at a 2-under 70 to win the individual title by five strokes. 
 
MAC Women’s Golfer of the Week
Casey Oppenheimer (Stevenson / Sr. / Conshohocken, Pa.) earns her second consecutive conference weekly award of the season. Oppenheimer won her second-straight tournament with a one-under par 70 at the Elizabethtown Fall Invitational, held at Hershey Country Club East. Oppenheimer, who won the tournament by five strokes, now has 11 career victories.


TENNIS (#MACtennis)
MAC Commonwealth Men’s Player of the Week 
Justin Schuetz (Lebanon Valley / Gr. / Reading, Pa.) led the Dutchmen to a 3-0 week with three big wins at No. 1 singles. Schuetz began the week with a 7-5,3-6,10-2 victory over Scranton’s James Harrington, followed with a victory over Dickinson’s Garrick Adams 6-3, 6-3. On Sunday, he took down Susquehanna’s Joshua Sanderson 6-1, 6-3. 

MAC Commonwealth Women’s Player of the Week
Eliana Shenk (Lebanon Valley / So. / Manheim, Pa.) earns her second consecutive conference weekly award of the season. Shenk won the No. 5 singles titles at the MAC Women’s Tennis Individual Championships over the weekend after defeating top-seeded Isabella Dona from Stevens 6-0, 6-3 in the title match. Shenk became the first Dutchman to be crowned a MAC Individual Champion since 2014. 

MAC Freedom Women’s Player of the Week
Brianna Pizzano (Misericorida / Jr. / Exeter, Pa.) claimed her second-straight No. 1 singles title at the MAC Women’s Tennis Individual Championships. Pizzano defeated Stevens’ Agatha Malinowski 6-4, 6-3 in the title match.
